eine Recherche zur performativen, physischen und emotionalen Verschränkung von Weinen und Metal Musik von Project.tgthr / Eevi Kinnunen und Olivia Ronzani

(Deutsche Version in Bearbeitung)
„Metal Tears“ started with a research phase in 2025 funded by Migros Kulturprozent Ideation. At the moment the project is in the production phase heading towards a Premiere in April 2027 at Theater Roxy Birsfelden.
„Metal Tears“ explores the physical and emotional act of crying accompanied by metal music, using dance, voice and live drumming as its primary language. The duo works with Metal Music from queer, anti-fascist, leftist bands/groups/projects as well as creating original music for the upcoming stage-piece.
On stage, Project.tgthr envisions a raw, punchy and vulnerable performance: Three performers, resembling a band go on a journey to cry. A drummer and two dancers cry for the passing of time, the vanishing species and landscapes, the legacy of their grandmothers, for their queerness that is revealed underneath the layers of heteronormativity, peeled back like the layers of an onion. They cry for happiness and hope. They cry to connect to the world and its struggles and to one another. The crying takes different forms, tears, sounds, songs, movements. On their journey towards the cry the performers engage with the relentless and complex rhythms of heavy metal music and challenge the male heteronormative stereotype that sticks to it. They hold each other through their crying. They let their crying journeys collide, echo and contradict with one another. They fake their tears until they make it. They use onions, chillies and water – materials that provoke tears and embody the act of crying as both involuntary and intentional.
Visually and emotionally charged, "Metal Tears" challenges societal norms surrounding masculinity and emotion, offering audiences a visceral and collective experience of catharsis. In a time marked by shared sorrow and disconnection, the work asks: how can shared emotional expression – especially crying – be a tool for activation? Can collective catharsis move us toward empathy, solidarity, and social change?
